Siemens celebrated its 100th anniversary in Singapore in 2008. A pioneer foreign investor, Siemens continues to set the pace in Singapore’s technological and economic development, especially in the Energy, Industry and Healthcare Sectors. More than one third of the power plants in Singapore are built by Siemens.
In fiscal 2008 (October 1, 2007 – September 30, 2008), sales to customers in Singapore amounted to EUR 431 million. New orders totaled EUR 511 million. Siemens currently has about 2 250 employees in Singapore.
Siemens’ activities in Singapore date back to 1908 when the company established a Technical Bureau as a sales office of the London-based Siemens Brothers Dynamo Works Limited. It was one of the first German industrial companies to set up operations in Singapore. Today, it continues as a major investor and a key player in the country’s engineering, electronics, biomedical and media industries. For its outstanding efforts and many contributions to the local economy, Siemens was honored with the Distinguished Partner in Progress Award by Singapore’s Economic Development Board in 2001.
Siemens is also playing an important role in another mega infrastructure project in Singapore – the deep tunnel sewerage system. The project consists of a new underground wastewater conveyance, treatment and disposal system that will eventually replace the existing system – freeing up more land for land-scarce Singapore. In addition to providing power distribution, actuators and temperature transmitters, Siemens will also deliver the aeration and sludge conveying systems, chain and screaper clarifiers, and the odor control system.
