Following successful final acceptance testing at the Siemens transformer factory in Nuremberg, the world’s first 800-kilovolt transformer for extra-high-voltage DC transmission systems (HVCD) is ready for delivery. Known as digital graffiti, these virtual sightseeing tips are like electronic post-it notes. A special application designed to demonstrate the practicability of the system is now being showcased for the first time at the Linz Research Night on September 26. more

From the Siemens plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen the first coaches of the Velaro RUS were transported on low- loaders to Berlin where they were exhibited to the general public for the first time. 300dpi   The Velaro RUS will travel up to 250 km/hour in Russia. By 2010 eight high speed trains will be built at the Siemens plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen and delivered to RZD. The SkyHydrant contains everything it needs: it filters the water from Jiangyou’s local supply network, the treatment plants of which were destroyed by the earthquake on May 12 2008. 300dpi   “The setup was very simple: in ten minutes, we had unpacked the SkyHydrant and put it into operation,“ says Li Zaoyang, engineer at Jiangyou’s waterworks, and responsible for overseeing the SkyHydrant. He used a hose to connect the unit to the water tap, from which even the green spaces are watered. 300dpi   Clean water is a prerequisite for the survival of people in Jiangyou. Many were made homeless after the devastating earthquake of May 12 2008. In the second week of July, Siemens installed the first test wind energy station with gearless drive technology near Ringkøbing in West Denmark. 300dpi   Siemens is equipping the two gearless test stations with synchronous generators which are excited by permanent magnets. 300dpi   The gearless test stations are equipped with standard rotor blades.
