Ratings & Rankings
Siemens’ commitment to corporate responsibility is confirmed not least by its inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI)
September 2008:
Siemens makes the Dow Jones Sustainability Index again. Top marks in the Economic Performance Category.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are generated by a cooperation of Dow Jones Indices, STOXX Limited and SAM Group. By bringing together the expertise of two leading index providers and the world-renowned pioneer in sustainability investing, the DJSI family rests on a strong foundation to meet the growing market demand for professional, objective and reliable sustainability benchmarks. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices include, respectively, the 10 and 20 percent of companies from the World and European index in a sector which boast the most successful records in regard to economic, environmental and social aspects.
Since the inception of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the European Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX) in 1999 and 2001 respectively, Siemens has continuously kept its ratings at a high level.
Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI)
2008
We share the belief that climate change poses one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century (besides other issues like the need to ensure economic growth, alleviate poverty and provide access to adequate supplies of energy and water) and that the issue demands the attention of governments, the society as well as the industry. In this context climate change could on the one hand - due to the change of the surrounding conditions - have negative impact on the economies of many countries. So it might be a risk factor not only for individuals, but also for our global business environment. On the other hand a couple of activities for climate change mitigation promote business opportunities especially for technology suppliers like Siemens which offer energy efficient technologies and therewith can help to reduce carbon emissions.
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) asked FT500 companies ten questions regarding climate change related risks, opportunities, technologies, emissions, reductions and costs or savings. Its aim is twofold: to inform investors about the significant risks and opportunities presented by climate change; and to inform company management about the serious concerns of shareholders regarding the impact of these issues on company value.
The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) divides campanies into two groups, the carbon-intensive sectors and the non-carbon-intensive sectors. It consists of each group 30 companies with the best environmental performance. Siemens, allocated to the carbon-intensive sectors, reached the second highest performance in the manufacturing sector in CDLI 2008.
