Siemens is moving ahead with a new efficient and precise treatment technique in the battle against cancer. A particle therapy center for radiation treatment will enable to treat special tumors located near vital organs.
Siemens is providing a particle therapy center for radiation treatment for Rhön-Klinikum AG in Marburg. Rhön-Klinikum AG is investing more than €100 million in the project, which is expected to be completed in 2010. Siemens is also involved in another project for a similar facility to be built at Heidelberg University Hospital and the University Clinic of Schleswig-Holstein (consortium of bidders including Siemens, Bilfinger Berger and HSG Technischer Service with the construction and operation of the first particle therapy center (PTC) in Northern Germany). With an investment value of roughly 260 million euros for the construction of the facility, this represents the largest public private partnership (PPP) project ever launched in the German healthcare sector.
