The Distributed Energy Management System DEMS from SIS enables requirement-oriented planning of the energy production and distribution in the world’s largest paper factory of SAPPI (South African Pulp and Paper Industries) near Graz, Austria. The production planning data for the next day are called up in the SIS solution. Based on historical data analyses by mathematical methods (Kalman filter) the energy requirement for all consumers in the factory as well as 39 requirements forecasts for the electricity, gas and steam consumption of the following day are calculated. This optimization planning enables a minimum use of fuel and thus minimum CO₂ emissions.
