Sweden’s Lillgrund offshore wind farm lies in the Öresund Sound between Malmö and Copenhagen. The Lillgrund project saw Siemens install 48 wind turbines of model SWT-2.3-93, each with a capacity of 2.3 megawatts. Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall operates the wind farm with an installed total power of 110 megawatts.
Siemens was also responsible for supplying the turnkey grid connection for the wind farm, including construction of the offshore transformer station.
The transformer station bundles the electricity produced and a 120 MVA power transformer converts the voltage so that the electricity generated by the wind farm can be supplied to the Swedish national grid.
Since June 2008, the Lillgrund offshore wind farm has produced sufficient electricity to supply 60,000 Swedish households.
