For the trade press
Nuremberg (Germany), 2008-Nov-13
Tailor-made process control technology and solutions that save energy for oil mills and refineries as well as for special factories will be presented by the Siemens Industry Automation Division at the oils+fats fair in Munich from November 18 to 20, 2008. Matched to the needs of the edible oil industry, the Siemens range of products, services and solutions includes Simatic PCS7 for Edible Oils, a control system developed specifically for this industry, and extends from process instruments and power distribution systems to relevant types of drive technology.
The Siemens control system for the edible oil industry is scalable and – starting with a Box PC-based system – is suitable for small, medium-sized and even large factories with several production lines. The underlying element is the standardized process control system Simatic PCS 7, which can be used in many branches of industry. Libraries supplement the system to make it a special solution for the edible oil industry. Apart from performing control functions in plants, Simatic PCS7 for Edible Oils is suitable for power monitoring and component supervision, for example. Energy-saving potential or the degree of wear and disadvantageous operating states of individual plant components are detected, particular of rotary pumps. User archives, with which the entire history of product origins can be traced back as far as the raw material used, are also important for the edible oil industry.
This year's exhibition program includes not only Simatic PCS7 for Edible Oils but also a pump model that visualizes energy-saving potential. At the same time, drives are compared in terms of power consumption, investment costs and amortization time. Here it is evident that drives with lower power consumption usually pay for themselves quickly in spite of higher prime costs.
