RAG AG has commissioned Siemens IT Solutions and Services to take over and operate large portions of its IT and telecommunication infrastructure (ITC) in Germany. The outsourcing contract will run for four years and is worth some 35 million euros. RAG AG's aim is to thus improve the quality of its IT while at the same time cutting costs.
Within the contract, the Siemens subsidiary SBI Ruhr will operate the entire network and telecommunication infrastructure at the locations in Germany. This includes the headquarters of RAG in Herne, mines and a coking plant. Alongside providing secure and modern networks, the contract also covers telecommunication services for more than 15,000 telephones. In addition, Siemens will support employees with a help desk offering quick assistance for problems with their PC or telephone. A further integral part of the agreement is the migration of the customer’s own trunk cable network to a modern, IP-based network supplied by Siemens.
