Siemens Mobility Division received an order from Helsinki City Transport (HKL), Finland, for technical equipment of an extension of metro line. The contract amounts to 56 million Euros. HKL plans an extension of the line for approximately 14 km and seven stations.
Siemens Mobility is equipping 24 new trains with automation technology for driverless operation for the Finnish transit authority Helsinki City Transport (HKL).
Just the year before, Siemens had been awarded a contract worth around 100 million Euros to renovate the existing line. The line will be supplied with a driverless metro system. It is taken into service from 2013 on in the Finish capital. In 2014, the newly built line will be start running from the inner city to Espoo. The new automated system is capable of transporting more passengers. At the same time, the ride will become more comfortable, as the waiting periods will be reduced from 4 minutes to 2.5 minutes. The system has to sustain temperatures as low as - 40º Celsius. Siemens will supply the automatic control system, the operations control center, the signalling system, the onboard communication, the platform access doors and the dynamic passenger information system.
