Siemens Mobility has been given an order from the Swedish Mail (Posten) for a new energy-saving flats sorting machine. The Open Mail System (OMS) is capable of processing up to 50,000 items of mail per hour, making it the fastest system in the world. The advantages for Posten lie in the higher productivity, lower energy consumption and more careful handling of items of mail. The new flats sorting machine is scheduled to go into operation in October 2010. The purchase contract also contains an option for further sorting machines.
The Open Mail Handling System from Siemens Mobility represents a new generation of machines for sorting flats. The integration of new automation technology into a multi-function system makes the new sorting machine the fastest in the world. It also masters a very broad spectrum of envelope materials – regardless of whether they are made of plastic or paper, rigid or soft envelope materials. The passage of items of mail through the machines is particularly gentle, thus minimizing damage.
“The Swedish Mail is getting the fastest sorting system for flats currently available on the market. What’s more, energy consumption has been cut by as much as 20 percent in comparison with the previous machines. This signifies a substantial reduction in the environmental impact,” said Göran Persson, the head of the Industry Sector at Siemens AB Sweden.
