Greater flexibility in controlling swimming pool water quality: New software update for Depolox Pool measurement and control system

In order to simplify measurement and control of the water quality of water in swimming pools and spas, Siemens Water Technologies is now offering a new software update for the Depolox Pool measurement and control system. The update provides greater flexibility in adapting the DIN contact – which passes on information on the hygiene parameters to the swimming pool control system – to the regulations applicable at the place of use.

Siemens acquires majority holding in Germany-based Steinmüller Engineering

Siemens Energy is expanding its service business for energy and environmental technology and has acquired a 60 percent majority holding in Gummersbach-based Steinmüller Engineering GmbH, Germany. Steinmüller Engineering provides engineering for both innovative combustion technologies designed to significantly reduce CO2 and NOx emissions and exhaust-gas cleaning systems for fossil-fueled power plants.

The Process Consultancy Services offered by Siemens VAI Metals Technologies help manufacturers of flat aluminum products to boost their productivity and yield and to improve product quality. The process consultancy services can be tailored to specific requirements, ranging from examining one single sub-system to analyzing complete factory operations. At a Chinese foil mill, it was possible to increase productivity by around 25 percent.

Siroll Heavy Duty Shapemeter: new flatness measuring system for cold rolled steel and aluminum strip up to 5.5 mm thick

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has augmented its portfolio for online flatness measurement of cold rolled strip in steel and aluminum rolling mills with the Siroll Heavy Duty Shapemeter. The new flatness measuring system is an enhanced version of the tried-and-tested Air Bearing Shapemeter family and enables measurement of cold rolled strips with a thickness of up to 5.5 mm. The system can be adapted flexibly to a wide range of end products and varying production conditions.

Efficient generation of power from finely chopped material: Trial operation of the biomass heating and power station in Boeblingen completed successfully

The new biomass heating and power station of the Zweckverband Restmuellheizkraftwerk Boeblingen (RBB) in the German Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg has now started regular operations, using finely chopped material to generate energy in a manner which is most compatible with protection of the environment. After starting in February, trials were completed successfully at the beginning of May when the performance test was carried out. The Siemens Industry Solutions Division supplied a Reject Power installation for the heating and power station.

Railway line in Saudi Arabia equipped with latest signaling and communications technology from Siemens – Line section using train protection system based on the ETCS standard

The rail link between Dammam and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia has been equipped with the most up-to-date signaling and telecommunications systems from Siemens Mobility. Rail operations started on the more than 1,000-km-long new line with this new technology in June 2009. The 449-km-long section of the line reserved for passenger service has been equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) and marks the first-ever use of this technology in the Arabic world.

Reliable instrumentation communication within complex plant structures: Measuring and control systems from Siemens Water Technologies become fieldbus-capable

SFC, MFC and Depolox Pool measuring and control systems from Siemens Water Technologies can now be easily connected to plant level PLC systems via optional fieldbus modules. This reduces the overhead wiring considerably. Whereas data exchange from the instrumentation to plant level PLC systems has previously relied on available 4-20 mA outputs, the fieldbus modules expand this communication to a greater number of read and write functions.

Siemens modernizes gas cleaning system for blast furnace of Ovako Wire Oy Ab

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from the special steel products company Ovako Wire Oy Ab in Finland to engineer and supply a gas scrubber for the blast furnace at its Koverhar plant. With the new gas scrubber, up to 125,000 Nm3 per hour of blast furnace gas can be cleaned. The modernization project is to be completed in November 2009.
