In the “Notes” series, brand eins Wissen deals with current topics of general interest. These topics are explored from a rather unconventional angle, new theses are put forward and unusual problems discussed.
Siemens’ corporate responsibility activities have come under the critical eye of brand eins Wissen: The new paperback with the title “Notes – Inspiration; Create. More. Value. – Commitment wears many faces“ is devoted to the social responsibility of companies, with five exciting features and reports describing the projects submitted by the finalists of the Siemens Corporate Responsibility Award 2007.
The projects show the many, locally relevant ways in which corporate responsibility can be expressed. They involve an Internet-based information platform for the pediatric sector, a project to change the professional education framework in Mexico, a water purification system from Australia for the Third World and for use in emergency areas, the integration of the disabled in the production process in Bremen and assistance with medical treatment for U.S. citizens below the poverty level.
Thomas Ramge takes the company’s social commitment as the basis for a discourse on ethical behavior. In an unusual article he links evolution and altruism. Species like the vampire bat, where the animals selflessly feed each other, have the best chances of survival. Human beings have also profited during their evolution from such behavior.
