Sustainability and responsible action are not possible in isolation and can only result from joint initiatives on the part of politicians, the business world and society. Numerous memberships and partnerships in important national and international organizations underline the importance attached by Siemens to corporate responsibility.
Global Compact: This initiative was launched by the United Nations to bring companies together with UN agencies, labor and civil society to support key principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. Siemens joined the initiative in November 2003, thereby committing to uphold the Global Compact’s principles and values.
We have integrated the Communication on Progress according to the Global Compact in our Corporate Responsibility Report 2007.

econsense, an initiative of the Federal Association of German Industry (BDI), is a joint project of leading international companies and organizations in the German business world which have incorporated sustainable development into their company strategy. Since 2004, econsense has been a regional network partner of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Siemens plays an active part in climate protection and other areas of environmental protection through numerous memberships and partnerships.
Siemens is a founding member of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) initiative “Business for Climate Protection.” The companies united under the initiative agree that “Decisive action, in the form of global solutions to limit global warming, is necessary.” They seek to actively “contribute to tackling worldwide climate change” and demonstrate their expertise in providing solutions with ambitious goals in the fields of energy production, energy use and mobility. The initiative has developed a concrete program that includes drawing up a climate roadmap showing Germany’s potential for reducing CO2emissions.
Siemens is actively involved in the United States Climate Action Partnership (US CAP) through its US affiliate. This initiative is an alliance of leading US companies and environmental organizations calling for a broad range of concrete measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the US.
