Siemens is affected by public policy debates and political decisions in a variety of ways, all of which have an impact on our business activities. Aside from our business relationships with government institutions and agencies, as customers for our products, solutions and services, we also openly seek to influence public policy through various means in our capacity as a corporate citizen. Siemens advocates positions on all issues that have an impact, directly or indirectly, on the company’s business activities. Such issues relate to important matters such as energy, health care and transportation, as well as environmental protection, trade policy and industrial policy.
The positions that we advocate are developed within the context of current scientific and public debates, insofar as they are relevant to our concerns as a company. They are carefully formulated after detailed analysis of the factual background, with due consideration given to the various possible interpretations and lines of argument relating to these often highly complex issues.
We seek to maintain an open, continuous dialog with our discussion partners in politics and social institutions, fully aware that the major issues of our time can be solved only through close cooperation among business, government and civil institutions. The issues in question relate to education, climate change, the protection of energy and water supplies and the assurance of high-quality medical care. With regard to these important issues, we are skilled, expert partners who actively contribute to solving the problems of our day.
We conduct this dialog in the form of bilateral discussions, through the company’s own events and programs and in cooperation with international organizations and initiatives such as the Global Compact, the World Economic Forum or the Transatlantic Business Dialog.
We cooperate with non-profit organizations such as the Clinton Global Initiative. In doing so, we seek to further the goals of our partners by using our company’s expertise in a targeted way, encouraging voluntary contributions by our employees, making available the worldwide network of the Siemens organization, and by providing transparent financial support.
As a company, we maintain political neutrality and respect the different world views of the people we do business with.
